Beatrix Kiddo wakes from a four-year coma to find that the man she loved, Bill, ordered a massacre at her wedding and left her for dead. Her unborn child is gone. She compiles a list of five names. Lucy Liu plays O-Ren Ishii, who now runs the Tokyo underworld behind a wall of bodyguards called the Crazy 88. David Carradine is Bill — last name on the list. Sonny Chiba appears as Hattori Hanzo, a legendary swordsmith who swore never to forge another blade until Beatrix shows up at his sushi bar.

Tarantino built the film from Hong Kong action cinema, spaghetti westerns, a hand-drawn anime sequence, and American grindhouse — each section shot and cut in a different style. The Whole Bloody Affair version was shown in limited theatrical screenings only: it restores the black-and-white fight footage in color and presents the finale without cuts.
