The Hurricane

The Hurricane (1999) is Norman Jewison's drama you can watch online on iFILM. Denzel Washington plays middleweight contender Rubin Carter, the fighter whose ring nickname gives the film its title. One June night in 1966 he was climbing toward a championship shot. Soon after, he was behind bars.

Three people were shot dead inside a New Jersey tavern, and the blame landed on Carter — three consecutive life sentences. Years later a teenager from Brooklyn stumbled onto Carter's prison memoir, and the boy, along with the Canadians who had taken him in, set out to free a man none of them had met. Vicellous Shannon, Liev Schreiber, John Hannah and Deborah Kara Unger appear alongside Washington.
