Synopsis
The Karate Kid (1984) is a sports drama from director John G. Avildsen you can watch online on iFILM. New Jersey teen Daniel LaRusso moves to Los Angeles, falls for a girl named Ali, and lands on the wrong side of the Cobra Kai dojo and its vicious sensei.
The bullies travel in a pack, and Daniel has no way to fight back. Then he meets Mr. Miyagi, the quiet handyman fixing things around his apartment complex, who turns out to be a martial arts master. Miyagi agrees to train him. But first come the chores: wax the cars, paint the fence, sand the floor. Only later does Daniel grasp that every numbing repetition was teaching his body to block and strike. The All Valley tournament looms, and the kid will have to face Johnny and the Cobras on the mat.
Avildsen, fresh off Rocky, ran this story on the same engine: an underdog earning his own respect the hard way. Pat Morita earned an Oscar nomination as Miyagi, and "wax on, wax off" became part of the language. A story about friendship, patience and growing up that still lands four decades on.
