Synopsis
The Devil and Father Amorth (2018) is a documentary horror film you can watch online on iFILM, directed by William Friedkin — the man who made The Exorcist in 1973. Forty-five years after that film changed how audiences think about demonic possession, Friedkin was granted access to an actual exorcism conducted by Father Gabriele Amorth, the Vatican's chief exorcist, and brought a camera.
The subject is a woman named Cristina, undergoing her ninth session. What the footage shows — convulsions, a radically altered voice, a force that resists the priest — Friedkin then took to neurologists, psychiatrists and brain surgeons. None of them could account for it medically. At 68 minutes the film asks no questions out loud and gives no answers. It just puts the footage in front of you.
