After the Dark

After the Dark (2013) is a philosophical sci-fi thriller you can watch online on iFILM. At an international school in Jakarta, a philosophy teacher hands his graduating class one final exam: a thought experiment about the end of the world.

The setup is brutally simple. A nuclear disaster is coming, and an underground bunker has room for only ten of the twenty students. Each is assigned a profession and a role, and together they must reason out who deserves to survive and rebuild the human race, and who gets left outside to die. The classroom dissolves, and the teenagers find themselves running across the scorched ground of an imagined apocalypse. The teacher, played by James D'Arcy, keeps rewriting the rules, and behind the cold logic a personal grudge slowly surfaces.

Director John Huddles built a debate dressed as a thriller: every run of the scenario ends differently, and every choice costs someone their life. The cast includes Sophie Lowe, Rhys Wakefield, Bonnie Wright and Erin Moriarty. A film for anyone who likes a movie that turns into a puzzle with no right answer.
