The Fire Inside (2024) — watch online this American sports biography on iFILM. Director Rachel Morrison follows Claressa "T-Rex" Shields, a teenager from Flint, Michigan who became the first American woman to win an Olympic gold medal in boxing, at the 2012 London Games. Ryan Destiny plays Shields; Brian Tyree Henry plays her demanding coach, Jason Crutchfield.

Flint is broke, the pipes are leaking lead, and most kids from Claressa's neighbourhood never make it out. Crutchfield sees something different in her and trains without mercy — no sentiment, just rounds and rounds of grinding work. When she finally reaches London, the gold changes everything and nothing: sponsorships don't materialise the way they would for a male champion, and the real contest is still ahead.

Morrison refuses to sand off the edges. The film treats Flint as a character in its own right, and the systemic inequalities that follow Claressa past the podium give the story a harder edge than most boxing pictures.
