Synopsis

Newsies (1992) is a Disney historical musical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Kenny Ortega and scored by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, it recreates the real 1899 New York newsboys' strike against newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer.

Pulitzer hikes the wholesale price of papers by a fraction — enough to push hundreds of teenage street sellers to the edge. Jack Kelly, played with scrappy conviction by a young Christian Bale, rallies the newsies into an organized strike. Robert Duvall plays Pulitzer as a man who does not negotiate with kids, and the city's power structure quickly sides with the publisher. Bill Pullman and Ann-Margret round out the cast as unlikely adult allies. The film runs 121 minutes and balances genuine period detail against big, propulsive musical numbers choreographed by Ortega himself.
