Synopsis
Sudden Fear (1952) is a Hollywood noir thriller directed by David Miller — watch it online on iFILM. Joan Crawford plays Myra Hudson, a wealthy playwright who cuts an actor named Lester Blaine from her new stage production. He doesn't take the rejection lying down. On the train back to San Francisco, he sets out to change her mind — and he succeeds.
Myra marries Lester. Then, by pure accident, she finds proof that he and his ex-lover Irene are plotting her death. That moment flips the film: the woman who was prey becomes the one running the game, and the taut second half belongs entirely to Crawford's controlled, icy unraveling. Jack Palance as Lester is genuinely unsettling — all charm on the surface, cold calculation underneath — and Gloria Grahame plays Irene with brittle, dangerous energy.
The film works because it trusts its leading lady with something rarely given to women in 1950s Hollywood: the smarts to fight back. Crawford earned an Academy Award nomination for the role. Stream Sudden Fear (1952) online on iFILM.
