Synopsis

Perfect Blue (1998) is a Japanese animated psychological thriller from Madhouse — watch it online on iFILM. Mima Kirigoe walks away from her pop idol career to act in a TV drama. Her most obsessive fan does not approve. A website appears claiming to be her diary, written by someone who knows things no stranger should know.

Junko Iwao voices Mima with the kind of unraveling exhaustion that makes every scene feel one degree off. People around her start dying. Her manager Rumi, voiced by Rica Matsumoto, grows increasingly strange. And a vision of the old Mima — sparkly outfit, wide smile — keeps appearing in reflections to remind her that the real one already left.

Satoshi Kon directed the film at 35, before identity-collapse thrillers became a staple. Darren Aronofsky later licensed specific shot compositions for Requiem for a Dream and acknowledged the debt openly. In 81 minutes, Kon built something that has never been fully explained away — just rewatched. Stream Perfect Blue (1998) online on iFILM.
