Synopsis
Better Off Dead... (1985) is a teen comedy you can watch online on iFILM, starring a young John Cusack and directed by Savage Steve Holland.
High schooler Lane Meyer gets dumped when his girlfriend trades up for Roy Stalin, the captain of the ski team. Lane spirals into theatrical despair and keeps threatening to end it all, except every attempt flops into slapstick. Meanwhile he juggles a deranged family, a paperboy who hunts him down over two bucks, and Monique, the French exchange student who has moved in next door. The road back to himself runs straight down a brutal ski slope against the boy who took his girl.
This was Savage Steve Holland's first feature, built on deadpan absurdity, cartoon cutaways and the surreal sight gags that defined mid-80s comedy. It flopped on release, then grew into a cult favorite for fans of retro humor. It runs 97 minutes. Stream Better Off Dead... (1985) online on iFILM.
