About

Synopsis

My Girl (1991) is a tender coming-of-age comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. It follows one summer in the life of eleven-year-old Vada, who grows up in a house where the ground floor is her father's funeral parlor.

Anna Chlumsky plays Vada: her mother died giving birth to her, her dad (Dan Aykroyd) buries himself in work, and her grandmother drifts somewhere far away. The girl is fixated on death and illness, nurses a crush on her English teacher, and signs up for a summer poetry class just to be near him. Her one real anchor is neighbor kid Thomas J. (Macaulay Culkin), who is allergic to nearly everything. Then her father hires the warm, lively Shelly (Jamie Lee Curtis) and starts to smile for the first time in years.

Director Howard Zieff builds a small-town 1972 summer out of tiny details: first friendship, first crush, first loss. The ending lands far harder than a breezy summer movie should. Stream My Girl (1991) online on iFILM.
