Synopsis

Eighth Grade (2018) is an A24 coming-of-age comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. It marks the directing debut of comedian Bo Burnham and follows thirteen-year-old Kayla through her final week of middle school.

Kayla posts cheerful self-help videos about confidence, then barely speaks a word at school. Phone in hand, panic underneath. Elsie Fisher plays the raw awkwardness of being almost-fourteen with zero gloss: a dreaded pool party, the ache of wanting to be liked, halting dinners with a dad (Josh Hamilton) who has no idea how to reach her. It is a portrait of growing up while a screen narrates your whole life back at you.

The film premiered at Sundance and earned Fisher a Screen Actors Guild nomination for her breakout turn. Burnham built it out of the digital noise of Gen Z, yet shot it with surprising tenderness. Stream Eighth Grade (2018) online in high quality on iFILM.
