The Meddler

The Meddler (2016) is a comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Lorene Scafaria. Susan Sarandon plays Marnie, a New Jersey widow who follows her adult daughter to Los Angeles — armed with a new iPhone, money to spare, and a need to be useful that has no off switch.

Her daughter Lori, played by Rose Byrne, is a TV writer who draws firm boundaries. Marnie instantly finds other outlets: she funds a stranger's wedding, spends her afternoons volunteering at a hospital, and starts shadowing Apple Store employees who briefly make the mistake of being helpful. A retired cop named Zipper, played by J.K. Simmons, becomes something she did not expect.
