Synopsis
"Rustin" (2023) is a Netflix biographical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director George C. Wolfe tells the story of Bayard Rustin, the man who built the operational backbone of the August 1963 gathering at the Lincoln Memorial — 250,000 people, organized in under two months.
Rustin handled every logistical detail of what became a turning point in American civil rights legislation. The problem: he was an openly gay Black man at a time when that alone was grounds for arrest. Prominent movement leaders pressured to have him removed, fearing the association would undermine the cause. He kept working. Colman Domingo plays Rustin with controlled fury; Chris Rock, Jeffrey Wright, and Audra McDonald fill out the circle of allies, rivals, and opportunists around him.
The film recovers a figure who was deliberately pushed out of the official record. Domingo earned a Golden Globe nomination for the performance. Stream "Rustin" (2023) online on iFILM.
