Synopsis
The Normal Heart (2014) is an HBO drama you can watch online on iFILM. It drops you into New York at the start of the 1980s, when a disease no doctor can yet name begins spreading through the city's gay community. Writer Ned Weeks refuses to stay quiet while his friends die around him.
Ned, played by Mark Ruffalo, founds one of the first advocacy groups and ends up fighting on every front at once: city officials who withhold funding, newspapers that look away, even allies too scared to step into the open. Wheelchair-bound physician Emma Brookner, brought to life by Julia Roberts, is among the first to identify what is happening and demand a response. The ensemble includes Matt Bomer, Taylor Kitsch, Jim Parsons and Alfred Molina.
