Synopsis
The Young Victoria (2009) is a historical romance you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Jean-Marc Vallée. Victoria lost her father as a baby, grew up smothered by her mother and a scheming household advisor, and at eighteen found herself first in line to the British throne, with relatives circling for influence.
The story covers the run-up to her coronation and the early days of her reign. Her uncle in Belgium sends Prince Albert her way, hoping to engineer a useful match, yet something real sparks between them that no one had planned for. Victoria has to learn fast: how to fend off a forced regency, how to hold her own against ministers twice her age, and whom at court she can actually trust. The fight for the crown plays out in quiet rooms rather than on battlefields.
Emily Blunt plays the queen and Rupert Friend her Albert, with Paul Bettany and Miranda Richardson alongside. Julian Fellowes, later the creator of Downton Abbey, wrote the script, and Sandy Powell's costumes won an Academy Award. Stream The Young Victoria (2009) online on iFILM.
