Synopsis
The Lobster (2015) is Yorgos Lanthimos's dystopian satire you can watch online on iFILM. In this world, being single is against the law. David, played by Colin Farrell, is hauled off to a remote hotel with one brutal rule hanging over him.
Guests get 45 days to pair up with someone. Fail, and you are turned into an animal of your choosing and released into the woods. David has already picked his fate: a lobster, because they live for a century and never stop breeding. The other residents chase any flimsy match they can find, a shared squint, a tendency to nosebleeds, anything that counts as compatibility. Out past the hotel grounds live the Loners, rebels who ban romance just as harshly. And it is there that David meets a near-sighted woman, played by Rachel Weisz, who actually stirs something in him.
Lanthimos plays the absurd dead straight: flat voices, ridiculous rules, a quiet dread under every ordinary scene. The cast runs deep, with Olivia Colman, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw and John C. Reilly. The film won the Jury Prize at Cannes and became a calling card for the Greek director. Stream The Lobster (2015) online on iFILM.
