Synopsis

The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946) is a Hollywood noir thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Lewis Milestone. One childhood accident — and the silence that followed — binds three people together for the rest of their lives.

Martha (Barbara Stanwyck) has turned that secret into an empire. She runs the corrupt company town of Iverstown with her husband Walter (Kirk Douglas, in his screen debut), who owes his career entirely to her. Then Sam (Van Heflin) rolls back into town after years away, and the careful structure they've built starts to crack. He falls for drifter Toni (Lizabeth Scott), while Martha and Walter watch his every move, calculating what he knows and what it might cost them.

Stanwyck gives Martha a chill that few noir femmes have matched since. The film sits among the sharpest examples of postwar American crime cinema — tense, cynical, and technically precise. Watch The Strange Love of Martha Ivers (1946) online on iFILM.
