Synopsis
Frank (2014) is an Irish-British indie comedy-drama directed by Lenny Abrahamson that you can watch online on iFILM. Michael Fassbender spends the entire film inside a giant papier-mâché head. No one in the band has ever seen the face underneath — and that includes the audience.
Domhnall Gleeson plays Jon, a young keyboard player who stumbles into the group and immediately starts filming everything for social media. The band has been recording one album for years, hidden away in a rural retreat. Maggie Gyllenhaal is Clara, the theremin player who resents the new arrival. Scoot McNairy plays the manager barely keeping everything from collapsing. Jon wants viral videos and a South by Southwest slot. The rest of the group wants to be left alone to make something real.
The screenplay grew out of journalist Jon Ronson's personal account of playing in the real band fronted by British comedian Frank Sidebottom. Abrahamson — later director of Room — turned it into a deadpan meditation on creativity, authenticity, and the cost of exposure. Stream Frank (2014) online on iFILM.
