Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff arrives at the Earnshaw estate as a Liverpool orphan, taken in by a sympathetic patriarch. He and Cathy grow inseparable. When the father dies, her brother Hindley strips Heathcliff of any standing in the household. Cathy bows to social pressure and marries the respectable Edgar Linton. Heathcliff disappears — and when he comes back, he has money, a plan, and nothing left to lose.
