Gringo

Gringo (2018) is a crime-comedy with an action streak you can watch online on iFILM. Director Nash Edgerton drops a decent corporate man between a pharmaceutical company and a Mexican cartel, and the tagline says it plainly: chances are this won't end well.

Harold Soyinka (David Oyelowo) is a soft-spoken, by-the-book employee at a Chicago pharma firm whose bosses have walked all over him for years. Those bosses, Richard (Joel Edgerton) and Elaine (Charlize Theron), are quietly dealing with a cartel and plan to cut loose anyone in the way before the company goes public. When Harold learns he's expendable, he gets stranded in Mexico and fakes his own kidnapping. Soon there are hitmen, a mercenary who'd rather not kill anyone (Sharlto Copley), and a tourist in the wrong place (Amanda Seyfried) all circling him.

The more Harold panics, the funnier and more dangerous things get — everyone he trusts is running an angle of their own. Oyelowo plays mounting despair right up to the edge of farce, and that's the best thing in the film. Stream Gringo (2018) online on iFILM.
