Synopsis
China Girl (1987) is an American crime romance you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Abel Ferrara on the actual streets of New York's Little Italy and Chinatown. Tony, a young Italian-American, meets Tyan-Hwa at a local club. Both communities register the encounter as a provocation before the couple has said more than a few words.
Ferrara frames the story as a street-level Romeo and Juliet: Tony's older brother Albi runs the Italian crew, Tyan-Hwa's brother Yun leads the Chinese gang, and mob operator Johnny Mercurio is actively pushing to clear Chinatown off the map. Richard Panebianco, Sari Chang, James Russo, David Caruso and Russell Wong play characters for whom block borders are a point of honour with real consequences. The lovers didn't start this conflict, but they are the spark that makes it explode.
