Synopsis
News of the World (2020) is Paul Greengrass's Western, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Tom Hanks plays Captain Jefferson Kidd, who rides from one Texas town to the next and, for a dime, reads the newspapers aloud to people who never learned to.
A widower estranged from his own daughter, Kidd is asked to deliver a ten-year-old girl, Johanna (Helena Zengel), to relatives she has never met. Raised by the Kiowa, she barely speaks English; the old man and the child share no language and no manners. What lies ahead is a long haul across hard country — dust storms, lawless settlements, and men willing to steal an orphan for profit.
