Synopsis
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964) is a stop-motion Christmas special you can watch online on iFILM. A young reindeer with a nose that glows like a tiny lantern. And a herd that wants nothing to do with him because of it.
Sam the Snowman, voiced by singer Burl Ives, narrates the tale. Mocked for his shining nose and barred from the reindeer games, Rudolph runs away from home. Along the road he falls in with Hermey, an elf who would rather fix teeth than build toys, and Yukon Cornelius, a gold-hungry prospector. The trio stumble onto the Island of Misfit Toys, dodge the towering Abominable Snowman, and circle back to the North Pole just as a thick fog threatens to ground Santa's Christmas Eve flight.
Produced by Rankin/Bass using puppet animation shot frame by frame, the film first aired on television in December 1964. It has run every holiday season since, making it one of the longest-lived Christmas TV programs around. Burl Ives sings the famous title song himself.
