Girlfight

Girlfight (2000) is an American indie drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Karyn Kusama made her feature debut with the story of Diana Guzman, a Brooklyn teenager whose anger keeps landing her in trouble — until she walks into the boxing gym attached to her school and finds something to do with it. Michelle Rodriguez plays Diana in her breakthrough role.

The gym's trainer doesn't want a girl in his gym. Diana stays anyway. Training gives her focus and a place to put the rage she carries from home. Then she falls for another boxer at the club. By the end of the season, they're both scheduled to fight in the same bracket — against each other.

Kusama shot the film on a tight budget in real Brooklyn locations, and Rodriguez carries every scene on the strength of pure physical commitment. Girlfight won both the Grand Jury Prize and the directing award at Sundance 2000. Watch it online on iFILM.
