Synopsis
Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) is a John Hughes comedy you can watch online on iFILM. All uptight marketing executive Neal Page wants is to fly from New York to Chicago in time for Thanksgiving dinner. It does not go well.
His flight gets cancelled, a blizzard wrecks every plan, and Neal ends up stuck with the last travel companion he'd ever choose: Del Griffith, a relentlessly chatty shower curtain ring salesman. Steve Martin and John Candy carry the whole film between them, one man seething, the other genuinely baffled by how much he grates. Trains break down, a rental car goes up in flames, and the two are forced to share motel beds while home keeps slipping further away.
Hughes built a road movie that quietly turns into something sadder than its laughs suggest, a story about loneliness hiding behind the slapstick. The "those aren't pillows" line and Candy's final scene became part of the holiday's pop culture. Watch for Kevin Bacon and Ben Stein in small roles.
