Synopsis

Lord of the Flies (1963) is Peter Brook's drama, and you can watch it online on iFILM. A plane goes down and leaves a cluster of English schoolboys alone on an empty island ringed by ocean. No grown-ups. Just palms, wild pigs, a freshwater spring, and a cave nobody wants to think about after dark.

At first the boys try to do it properly. They pick a chief, pass a conch shell to mark whose turn it is to speak, and keep a signal fire going so a passing ship might spot the smoke. The arrangement doesn't hold. Ralph keeps pulling the group toward rescue while Jack pulls it toward hunting and control, and the island splits into two camps. Bit by bit, there's less of the child left in each of them. Brook shot real boys with almost no acting experience in stark black and white, and that rawness lands harder than any polished staging could.

Adapted from the novel by William Golding, who would go on to win the Nobel Prize, this remains the best-known version of his book on screen. It watches how fast a thin coat of civilization flakes off once the rules and the adults are gone, and it never lectures. It just shows you. Stream Lord of the Flies (1963) online on iFILM.
