Synopsis
The Nines (2007) is a psychological thriller and fantasy drama you can watch online on iFILM. Writer-director John August structured the film as three distinct stories that share the same cast — Ryan Reynolds, Melissa McCarthy, and Hope Davis each play different characters across all three, yet somehow the same questions follow them from one story to the next.
The first segment puts Reynolds under house arrest as a troubled actor who starts noticing things that don't add up. The second follows a television showrunner — same actor, different life — whose pilot project gets entangled with a woman who seems to know too much. The third drops a video game designer and his family in the middle of nowhere, stranded and unsettled. Elle Fanning and Octavia Spencer appear across the stories, adding to the sense that nothing here is accidental. What ties it all together is a mystery the film refuses to spell out, at least not directly.
