Synopsis

The Human Stain (2003) is a drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Robert Benton and adapted from Philip Roth's 2000 novel. Anthony Hopkins plays Coleman Silk, a distinguished classics professor who spent decades hiding a secret capable of destroying everything he built — and it takes one carelessly interpreted remark to start the unraveling.

Silk loses his academic post after a routine question in class is read as a racial slur. The truth — that he couldn't possibly have meant what they claim — becomes irrelevant. Writer Nathan Zuckerman (Gary Sinise) begins piecing together Silk's story and stumbles onto something he didn't expect: a fabricated identity sustained across an entire adult life. Meanwhile Silk has taken up with Faunia Farley (Nicole Kidman), a younger woman carrying her own damaged history, while her volatile ex-husband (Ed Harris) watches the situation from a distance that keeps getting shorter. Wentworth Miller plays the young Silk in flashback, making the long arc of concealment concrete.

Benton keeps the film cool and measured, letting Roth's moral weight do the work. Stream The Human Stain (2003) online on iFILM.
