Synopsis
Sherlock Holmes Faces Death (1943) is a detective thriller you can watch online on iFILM, the eighth entry in Universal Pictures' Basil Rathbone series. Dr. Watson has volunteered as physician at Musgrave Manor, a wartime convalescent home for shell-shocked officers. When a colleague is found with a head wound and then the Musgrave brothers start turning up dead, Watson sends for Holmes.
Holmes arrives to find a long suspect list — the manor's owners, staff, and patients all have something to hide. The thread he keeps pulling leads back to an old family riddle, the Musgrave Ritual, a cryptic verse that turns out to be more than ceremonial. The solution involves a real location and a genuine surprise even by the series' standards.
Director Roy William Neill adapted the famous Arthur Conan Doyle story, updating the setting to 1940s Britain without losing the locked-estate atmosphere.
