Synopsis
In the Mood for Love (花樣年華, 2000) is Wong Kar-Wai's drama you can watch online on iFILM. Hong Kong, early 1960s. Maggie Cheung plays Su Li-zhen and Tony Leung Chiu-wai plays Chow Mo-wan — two neighbors in a cramped apartment building whose spouses are never quite home.
They figure it out the same way: a handbag he recognizes, a tie she knows. No confrontation follows. What fills the space instead is something slower — shared noodle runs at midnight, slow-motion corridors, and a score by Michael Galasso and Shigeru Umebayashi that turns every passing second into something weighted. Cinematographer Christopher Doyle shot the film as a series of paintings in amber and shadow. Wong Kar-Wai famously had no script; the film took two years to edit into its final shape. At Cannes 2000, Leung took the Best Actor award.
