Soul (2020) — watch online on iFILM: Pixar's animated drama directed by Pete Docter, featuring Jamie Foxx as Joe Gardner, a New York middle-school music teacher who finally lands a gig with a legendary jazz quartet — and then falls down a manhole and dies before he ever gets on stage.

Joe refuses to go quietly. He escapes into the Great Before, a cosmic waiting room where unborn souls find their spark before heading to Earth. Tina Fey voices 22, a soul who has dodged every mentor for twenty-two centuries and has no interest in living at all. The two are stuck together: Joe needs a shortcut back to his body; 22 has no idea what she's missing. Phylicia Rashad voices Joe's mother Libba, and Angela Bassett plays the sharp-tongued jazz legend Dorothea.

The film splits its score between two worlds — Jon Batiste's warm, nimble jazz and the cool electronic drones of Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. That division won the 2021 Oscar for Best Original Score, alongside the award for Best Animated Feature. Stream Soul (2020) online on iFILM.
