Synopsis
Rock & Rule (1983) is a Canadian animated sci-fi fantasy you can watch online on iFILM. Nelvana's ambitious production was the first feature-length animated film made entirely in Canada, and it recruited genuine rock acts — Lou Reed, Debbie Harry, and Cheap Trick — to voice characters and perform the score.
The setting is a post-apocalyptic Earth ruled by mutant survivors and loud music. Mok, a once-great rock star now chasing dark power, needs a rare voice to summon a demon from another dimension. He kidnaps Angel from a young band, hauls her to Nuke York, and the rest of her crew races to stop the ritual before the creature crosses over.
Seven years in production nearly bankrupted the studio, and the final film shows both that strain and that ambition. It is rougher than anything Disney was making in the same decade — and for fans of cult animation, that roughness is exactly the point. Stream Rock & Rule (1983) online on iFILM.
