Badland

Badland (2019) is an American western you can watch online on iFILM. Director Justin Lee assembled an unusual cast for an independent production: Bruce Dern, Mira Sorvino, Wes Studi, Tony Todd, and Jeff Fahey, running 117 minutes.

In the years after the Civil War, detective Matthias Breecher (Kevin Makely) moves through the Old West on a single-minded assignment — hunt down Confederate officers responsible for wartime atrocities. The list keeps him riding. Along the way he crosses paths with a pioneer woman who refuses to fit the role he assigns her, and his certainties about justice start to wobble.

This is a low-budget film that earns its tone. Dern brings weight from decades in the genre; Sorvino takes a part that resists easy definition. The film works best as a slow-burn character study rather than an action ride — those expecting shootouts every ten minutes will be disappointed, but viewers who like morally complicated westerns about what winning a war actually costs will find something here.
