Stripes

Stripes (1981) is Ivan Reitman's army comedy you can watch online on iFILM. In a single rotten afternoon, cab driver John Winger loses his job, his car, his apartment and his girlfriend. His fix is insane: he signs up for the U.S. Army.

Played by Bill Murray, Winger drags his buddy Russell along and lands in a basic-training platoon packed with every misfit in the county. Drills, screaming sergeants, lights out at dawn — and a squad that could not care less. Then it gets worse. The guys manage to commandeer a top-secret combat vehicle and drive it straight past enemy lines, nearly setting off an international incident.

Reitman made this right after Animal House, reuniting with Murray and writer Harold Ramis, who also plays the sidekick. Watch for John Candy, Sean Young and a young Bill Paxton in the ranks. It's crude, warm, and still endlessly quotable. Stream Stripes (1981) online on iFILM.
