The Thirteenth Floor
Question reality.
Synopsis
The Thirteenth Floor (1999) is a science-fiction mystery thriller you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Josef Rusnak. A tech company has built a flawless simulation of 1937 Los Angeles. Then the killings start.
The head of the project turns up dead, and programmer Douglas Hall (Craig Bircko) can't account for his own night. Worse, he suspects he did it. To find the truth, Hall jacks into the simulation himself and walks among people who have no idea they are lines of code. Every answer he digs up opens a darker question: who in this story is real, and who is running someone else's program. Gretchen Mol, Armin Mueller-Stahl and Vincent D'Onofrio round out the cast.
Released the same year as The Matrix, the film spent decades in its shadow, though it plays the reality game on its own terms: slower, gloomier, steeped in noir. It adapts Daniel F. Galouye's novel Simulacron-3, and its tagline says it plainly: question reality. Stream The Thirteenth Floor (1999) online on iFILM.
