Synopsis
Three... Extremes (2004) is an Asian horror anthology you can watch online on iFILM. Three directors, three countries, three stories designed to get under your skin: South Korea's Park Chan-wook, Japan's Takashi Miike, and Hong Kong's Fruit Chan each deliver a short film with no interest in playing it safe.
Fruit Chan opens with "Dumplings" — a faded TV actress pays a mysterious cook named Mei for a rejuvenation treatment, and the secret ingredient is exactly as disturbing as the film wants it to be. Miike's "Box" follows a novelist haunted by something that happened to her twin sister in childhood; the horror here is quieter, stranger, built from dread rather than shock. Park Chan-wook closes with "Cut," in which a successful film director comes home to find an enraged extra holding his family hostage. Lee Byung-hun plays the director; the segment is tightly wound and brutal, and it became the most talked-about of the three.
The anthology was produced as a sequel to the 2002 omnibus Three, and all three segments circulated at international festivals before being released together. Stream Three... Extremes (2004) in full on iFILM.
