Changing Lanes

Wall Street lawyer Gavin Banek (Ben Affleck) is racing to court to file a power of attorney worth millions. Doyle Gipson (Samuel L. Jackson) is heading to the same building to fight for shared custody of his sons. Banek leaves the scene, tosses Gipson a blank check instead of a ride, and drops the one file he cannot afford to lose. Gipson ends up with it. From there the two men set out to wreck each other's lives, one petty act of revenge feeding the next.

The cast also includes Toni Collette, Sydney Pollack, William Hurt and Amanda Peet. Michell skips the easy action-movie payoff and builds something colder: a single bad day that strips two men down to what their careers and their sobriety are really worth.
