Eddie (Richard Gere) is seven days from his pension and just wants to survive them. Sal (Ethan Hawke) is drowning in debt with a sick wife and a houseful of kids, so he starts skimming cash off dead dealers' bodies. Tango (Don Cheadle) has spent so long undercover that he barely knows which side he is on anymore, and his only real friend is Caz (Wesley Snipes), a dealer fresh out of prison. Their paths keep crossing the same Brownsville blocks.

Fuqua, who made Training Day, again digs into the underside of police work — no clean heroes, no easy villains, just tired men and bad options.
