Synopsis
The Replacement Killers (1998) is Antoine Fuqua's debut action thriller, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Hired gun John Lee is sent to kill a cop's young son. He has the boy in his crosshairs, then he lowers the gun.
One missed hit changes everything. Chinatown crime boss Terence Wei doesn't forgive mistakes, so he puts a fresh crew of shooters on Lee (Chow Yun-Fat) and threatens his family back in China. Desperate for a passport, Lee tracks down forger Meg Coburn (Mira Sorvino), and the two end up caught between the killers and the police. Michael Rooker, Jürgen Prochnow and Danny Trejo round out the cast.
This was Chow Yun-Fat's first American role and Fuqua's first feature before he made Training Day. The gunfights borrow John Woo's grammar: smoke, slow motion, a pistol in each hand. Eighty-seven lean minutes, almost no breathing room. Stream The Replacement Killers (1998) online on iFILM.
