Chronicle

Chronicle (2012) is Josh Trank's sci-fi thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Three high schoolers crawl into a hole in the ground, find a strange glowing object down there, and climb back out no longer quite human.

Andrew, his cousin Matt and the popular Steve start nudging objects with their minds, then learn to fly. At first it's pranks and backyard stunts caught on camera. But Andrew goes home to a drunk father and a dying mother, and the stronger he gets, the less he's willing to swallow. The gift curdles into a weapon. The whole thing plays out as raw first-person footage: phones, camcorders, street security feeds.

Dane DeHaan, Alex Russell and a pre-fame Michael B. Jordan lead the cast. Trank's feature debut reworked both the found-footage format and the superhero origin, asking what happens when real power lands on a broken kid. Stream Chronicle (2012) online on iFILM.
