Synopsis
The Fugitive Kind (1960) is a brooding drama directed by Sidney Lumet — watch it online on iFILM. Marlon Brando plays Val Xavier, a wandering blues musician in a snakeskin jacket who drifts into a small Southern town hoping to put his old life behind him and lands a clerk's job in a dying man's store.
The store belongs to Jabe Torrance, who is not long for this world. His wife Lady — played with raw force by Anna Magnani — has been worn down by years of cruelty and small-town contempt. She finds something in Val she hasn't felt in a long time. Then there's Carol Cutere, played by Joanne Woodward: restless, reckless, latching onto him as a way out of her own dead end. Val is caught between two women, two forms of desperation, and a town that has already decided he doesn't belong.
The script is drawn from Tennessee Williams' play Orpheus Descending, and the film carries that stage heat — two acting titans sharing scenes that feel genuinely unpredictable. Stream The Fugitive Kind (1960) on iFILM.
