Synopsis
The Hill (1965) is a British war drama directed by Sidney Lumet that you can watch online on iFILM. Sean Connery stars as one of a group of soldiers confined to a British military detention camp in the North African desert, alongside Harry Andrews, Ian Bannen and Ossie Davis.
The film's central image is simple: a steep mound of sand built by hand under a punishing sun. No tactical value, no military purpose. Guards march prisoners up it again and again as a form of control — not by the book, but at the personal discretion of a sergeant who has learned to use exhaustion as a weapon. Lumet shot entirely in black and white, without a single combat scene. The enemy here wears the same uniform.
