With the grown-ups captured, the children are stashed in a government bunker under military watch. Sitting still isn't the plan. Leading the breakout is Missy Moreno, daughter of the strongest hero alive and the one kid in the room without any powers of her own. Her teammates make up for it: one stretches like rubber, another bends time, and one sings loudly enough to crack the walls. Wrangling that crew is hard, and the clock is running.

Rodriguez built the film as a spin-off of his Sharkboy and Lavagirl world, bringing Taylor Dooley back as Lavagirl. The adult cast packs in Pedro Pascal, Priyanka Chopra, Christian Slater and Boyd Holbrook, yet the story belongs to the kids, anchored by young YaYa Gosselin.
