The Finest Hours

The Finest Hours (2016) is Craig Gillespie's disaster drama you can watch online on iFILM. Off Cape Cod in the winter of 1952, a brutal blizzard tears an oil tanker clean in half and four men set out in a small wooden lifeboat to reach the survivors.

Bernie Webber (Chris Pine) is a soft-spoken Coast Guard coxswain who doubts himself at every turn. As the sea floods what is left of the wrecked ship, the crew below decks, led by engineer Ray Sybert (Casey Affleck), counts more than thirty stranded men and a rescue boat built for barely a dozen. Bernie steers his tiny craft straight into the gale, over walls of black water, his compass gone and visibility near zero. Back on shore his fiancee Miriam (Holliday Grainger) refuses to accept that he might not come home.

The film recreates one of the boldest small-boat rescues the U.S. Coast Guard ever pulled off, a true mission near the Massachusetts coast later told in a book.
