Synopsis

The Fearless Vampire Killers (1967) is Roman Polanski's horror-comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Part Gothic chiller, part slapstick farce, it unfolds across the snowbound Carpathians of Transylvania.

The bumbling Professor Abronsius and his timid assistant Alfred — played by Polanski himself — roam the mountains hunting vampires. At a remote inn, Alfred falls for Sarah, the innkeeper's red-haired daughter, who is promptly snatched away by Count von Krolock and locked inside his castle. To save her before she turns, the two would-be hunters have to sneak into the undead's annual ball, where being warm-blooded is a hard thing to hide.

Polanski blends Hammer-style Gothic with melancholy clowning, making a rare film that laughs at vampires rather than dreading them. Sharon Tate plays Sarah, Douglas Slocombe shot it, and Krzysztof Komeda wrote the score. Dismissed on release, it grew into a cult favorite over the decades.
