Synopsis
The Indian Runner (1991) is a drama directed by Sean Penn — his feature directorial debut — available to watch online on iFILM. The film grew out of Bruce Springsteen's song "Highway Patrolman," a spare ballad about a cop and his troubled brother.
Joe Roberts (David Morse) is a small-town deputy who keeps his head down and his badge clean. His brother Frank (Viggo Mortensen) came back from Vietnam cracked at the core — violent, restless, and determined to throw away every lifeline Joe throws him. The film moves slowly and honestly through their struggle: a wife (Patricia Arquette) trying to hold things together, a father (Charles Bronson) who long ago ran out of answers, and a young Benicio del Toro in an early supporting role. Dennis Hopper appears as a man who has already lost this exact fight.
