Synopsis

Two European mercenaries ride into China hunting black powder, the weapon that could win any war back home. What they find instead is the Wall itself and the secret army that mans it. The enemy is not a rival kingdom or a horde of raiders. Every sixty years a swarm of monstrous Tao Tei pours down from the mountains, and thousands of color-coded soldiers meet it with spears, catapults, and suicidal dives from the ramparts. The outsider William has a choice: run with the powder or take a place on the line.
