Synopsis
Mio in the Land of Faraway (1987) is a fantasy adventure you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Vladimir Grammatikov and based on Astrid Lindgren's novel. Lonely nine-year-old Bosse lives with cold, indifferent foster parents in Stockholm — until a genie from a bottle sends him to a magical kingdom where his real father turns out to be the King.
Renamed Mio, the boy gains a best friend in Jum-Jum and discovers a world full of light — but the land is shadowed by the knight Kato, whose chest holds a heart made of stone rather than flesh. That detail is not a metaphor: only a sword cut from a particular tree can kill him, and Mio is the only one who can carry it. A young Christian Bale plays Jum-Jum; Christopher Lee is Kato, bringing exactly the quiet menace the role needs.
Lindgren built the story around something real — what a child who has never been loved imagines love would feel like. The film carries that weight honestly, without irony. It's darker in places than modern family fantasy tends to be, which is exactly why it stays with viewers. Stream Mio in the Land of Faraway (1987) online on iFILM.
