Synopsis

All Is True (2018) — watch online on iFILM — is a British period drama written by Ben Elton and directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also plays William Shakespeare. The story begins on June 29, 1613: the Globe Theatre burns to the ground during a performance, and Shakespeare, shaken, decides he is done with London. He returns to Stratford-upon-Avon for the first time in years.

His wife Anne, played by Judi Dench, has managed the household and her own life without him for two decades. She receives him with a composure that sits close to reproach. Their daughters — Susanna and Judith — have lives he barely knows. Shakespeare plants a garden, argues with his neighbours, and circles the grief that has shadowed him for years: the death of his son Hamnet at eleven. Ian McKellen appears in a single sharp scene as the Earl of Southampton. Branagh keeps the film deliberately small — no crowd scenes, no soliloquies to the camera, no genius-at-work montage. Just a famous man realising how much he traded away for fame.
